CPSC adopts ASTM F2933-25 for crib mattresses from May 3, 2026, retaining modifications for full-size dimensions/sheet gaps, non-full-size F406 compliance, after-market play yard/bassinet testing.
On February 12, 2026, the CPSC issued a direct final rule updating the safety standards for crib mattresses.
Effective May 3, 2026, all crib mattresses must comply with ASTM F2933-25, subject to the following specific modifications:

- Non-Full-Size & After-market Mattresses (5.6.2):
- Must meet ASTM F406 requirements regarding stability, cord length, and side height.
- After-market versions must match or exceed original equipment size, lie flat against the support structure, and replicate any original manual storage or floor support features.
- Mesh/Fabric Play Yards (5.8.1): After-market mattresses must pass ASTM F406 safety tests (including vertical displacement and floor strength) for every specific model they are intended to replace.
- Interchangeable Bassinet Pads: Must additionally meet ASTM F2194 requirements for thickness and side height.
In addition, test methods in sections 6.2.2 and 6.2.3.5 – 6.2.3.7 have been updated or added.
